Home » Selling Sunset Fans Are Furious After Finding Out Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet Were Married 19 months Before On-Screen Wedding
Selling Sunset’s Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet have defended themselves after it was revealed that they actually married 19 months before they filmed their wedding on the series.
The pair were seen tying the knot at the end of season two of the Netflix favourite, with a huge bash celebrating their union.
However, it was since uncovered by TMZ that they actually legally wed on March 9, 2018, and not, as claimed on the series, October 12, 2019.
But the couple are insisting that, despite the previous ceremony, their wedding was completely real and not faked for the cameras.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, a rep for the couple confirmed the nuptials, but said: ‘Mary and Romain had a civil union a couple of months before the show began filming in June of 2018, but they chose not to tell any of their friends or family, as they were still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term.
‘In their minds they weren’t properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show.’
The revelation about their secret marriage further threw fuel on the rumours that the TV series is actually staged, with the cast having to defend themselves after being called out.
Chrissy Teigen was one of the first high-profile stars to cast doubt on the show’s authenticity, claiming that as someone who often looked at real estate, and had friends in the profession, no one had previously heard the cast at work.
But Christine Quinn quickly jumped in to speak to Chrissy – and even tried to flog her a house in the process.
‘Ahhhh my [queen] @chrissyteigen watched #SellingSunset,’ she wrote back. ‘Also, I have an AMAZING 2m listing hitting the market Monday in Studio City if you want to see it!’
You’ve got to respect the hustle.
Season four of the show is yet to be confirmed, though judging its worldwide fanbase it seems almost certain that there is still life in the Oppenheim Group yet.
